Savannah Guthrie has pleaded publicly for information about the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, following the release of two ransom notes.

In a statement posted to Instagram, the Today cohost said that her family is “desperate” and “begging for help” as they marked six months since Nancy’s disappearance.

She added, “We are real people, facing real grief, doing the best we can, and counting our many blessings along the way — most especially the prayers and love from good people, which we feel deeply. We need your prayers, we need your kindness. We need the good to be stronger than the evil.”

On Friday, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department made public the two ransom notes that surfaced after Nancy’s disappearance, asking anyone who recognizes the writer’s distinctive style to come forward. (Their contents are detailed below.) The department has not said whether the notes are authentic, and investigators continue to treat the case as active.

Nancy, 84, disappeared from her home in the Catalina Foothills area of Tucson, Ariz. She was last seen at about 9:45 p.m. on Jan. 31, when a family member dropped her off after dinner, and was reported missing around noon the next day when she didn’t show up at a friend’s house to watch a church service online.

Authorities have not publicly identified a suspect or motive, though on Feb. 10 the FBI released doorbell camera footage of a masked, armed man outside her home the morning she vanished.

A combined reward of $1.2 million is being offered for information leading to Guthrie’s recovery.
