In just over a month, the Faulkner family from Limerick’s Longpavement Halting Site has suffered losses that defy comprehension. The violent death of Scarlett Faulkner, followed days later by the unexplained pᴀssing of her brother Jason, left the close-knit Traveller family reeling. Now, as they continue to mourn two siblings buried just a week apart, another tragedy has struck: their 10-year-old cousin Christopher Faulkner lies critically injured in hospital after a serious road traffic collision in Northern Ireland.

On Sunday morning, April 26, 2026, a two-vehicle collision occurred on the Belfast Road near Nutts Corner in County Antrim. A 16-year-old boy, locally named as Callum Hutchinson from Tipperary, tragically died at the scene. Christopher Faulkner, a primary school pupil and first cousin to Scarlett and Jason, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a major trauma centre, where he remains in critical condition.
The news has shaken Limerick and the wider Traveller community. Victoria Faulkner, sister of Scarlett and Jason, posted an urgent plea on social media: “Lads, can everyone of ye please just pray for my beautiful baby cousin who was in a very bad car accident. Please God I know you can do this.” In a second emotional post, she wrote: “God, please our family can’t go through anymore. Please God, I am begging you to say he will be alright.”

Josephine (Joanne) Duffy, partner of the siblings’ brother Thomas, captured the family’s despair in a simple, powerful message: “Please Jesus, what more can this family take?”
A Timeline of Unimaginable Grief
The Faulkner family’s ordeal began on March 21, 2026, when 29-year-old Scarlett was allegedly ᴀssaulted on the roadside near Birdhill, County Tipperary. Her car was reportedly rammed off the R494 road, and she suffered catastrophic head injuries. After fighting for her life in an induced coma at Cork University Hospital, Scarlett pᴀssed away on April 13.
Hundreds attended her funeral at St Munchin’s Church on April 17. Jason Faulkner, then in his mid-30s, proudly served as one of the pallbearers. Just 48 hours later, on April 19, Jason’s body was recovered from the Abbey River in Limerick city centre. His death is still being treated as unexplained. He was laid to rest beside his sister at Meelick Cemetery on April 24.

Now, barely two days after Jason’s burial, the family faces yet another emergency. Christopher, described by relatives as a “beautiful baby cousin,” was a pᴀssenger in one of the vehicles involved in the Northern Ireland crash. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) continues to investigate the circumstances.
Community Rallies with Prayer and Support
The response from Limerick and beyond has been immediate and heartfelt. Prayer vigils have been organised at local churches, including St Lelia’s, with dozens gathering to light candles and offer support. Social media has been flooded with messages of solidarity, many simply saying “Praying for Christopher and the entire Faulkner family.”

The family has once again warned the public about fake fundraising pages exploiting their pain. They have asked for privacy and continued prayers rather than financial donations.
Strength in Tradition and Faith
The Faulkner family belongs to Limerick’s Traveller community, known for its strong family bonds, cultural traditions, and deep Catholic faith. The elaborate horse-drawn funeral processions for both Scarlett and Jason reflected that heritage — symbols of dignity and respect even in the darkest times.
Yet the relentless sequence of tragedies has tested even this resilient community. A cousin recently surviving a serious accident adds another layer of hardship. Many observers have expressed awe at the family’s continued faith and unity despite everything.
Road Safety Concerns Renewed
This latest collision has again highlighted road safety issues, particularly for young pᴀssengers. PSNI investigations are ongoing, and no further details about the other driver or exact cause have been released. The death of 16-year-old Callum Hutchinson has also deeply affected families in Tipperary and Northern Ireland.
A Family Clinging to Hope
As of April 28, Christopher remains in critical condition. Medical teams are working around the clock, and the family is holding onto every small sign of improvement. Victoria and other relatives continue to update supporters while requesting space to focus on Christopher’s recovery.
The broader story of the Faulkners has touched hearts across Ireland. From the halting site in Limerick to churches in Tipperary and beyond, people are united in prayer for the young boy and for a family that has already buried two of its own in the space of one heartbreaking week.
In the words of one local well-wisher: “This family has already given too much. Now they just need a miracle for Christopher.”
The coming days will be crucial. The people of Limerick and Ireland continue to stand with the Faulkners — offering prayers, thoughts, and quiet solidarity as they face yet another test of strength.
