🇭🇳🕊️ San Pedro Sula Mourns After Six Young Family Members Are Lost In Devastating House Fire

A heartbreaking tragedy has left the community of San Pedro Sula, Honduras, in mourning after five siblings and a young baby girl were lost in a house fire during the early morning hours.

The incident occurred in the Los Bordos de Esquipulas 2 sector of El Carmen, leaving a family facing unimaginable grief and a community searching for ways to offer support.

The young victims were identified as Daniela Azucena Cortés Mejía, 19; Jahir Cortés Mejía, 17; Jairo Joel Cortés Mejía, 10; Mayra Cortés Mejía, 7; Isaías Cortés Mejía, 6; and baby Madison Charlotte, who was only 6 months old.

According to authorities, the fire began between approximately 2:00 and 3:00 a.m. while the family was inside the home. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including a possible electrical problem that may have contributed to the fire.

Officials also reported that access to the room where the children were located presented challenges during the emergency response. Relatives explained that security concerns had influenced how the room was kept, as belongings were stored there.

The children’s mother shared that she had been sleeping in another area of the home that night, allowing her children and granddaughter more space.

Now, she and the entire family are facing a heartbreaking loss that words cannot fully describe.
