💙🙏 NICU Nurse Renee Faces Her Own Fight After Years of Helping Fragile Babies Survive

For more than a decade, Renee dedicated her life to caring for some of the smallest and most vulnerable patients in Texas.

As a NICU nurse at CHRISTUS Children’s in San Antonio, she spent countless hours supporting families during some of their most emotional moments — helping premature babies fight for a chance at life and giving parents hope during uncertain days.

Now, Renee is facing a difficult journey of her own.

She reached out to share her story because she hopes it will encourage others to listen to their bodies, trust their instincts, and never stop advocating for themselves. 💙

Before becoming a nurse who comforted other families, Renee experienced the NICU journey personally.

Fifteen years ago, she welcomed her first daughter, who was born extremely premature at only 26 weeks and weighed just 1 pound, 12 ounces. Her daughter spent 154 days receiving specialized care before finally going home.

Today, that little fighter is a thriving teenager.

Years later, Renee welcomed another daughter who arrived early at just 27 weeks and weighed only 2 pounds. After 63 days in the NICU, she was able to go home and is now preparing to start first grade, enjoying activities like gymnastics. 🌟

But Renee’s journey also included heartbreaking loss.

In September 2023, she became pregnant with identical twin girls. Instead of bringing her babies home, she faced the unimaginable pain of saying goodbye.

Renee shared that she was grateful for the opportunity to hold her daughters and create precious memories with them, even though she never had the chance to watch them grow.

Despite everything she had endured, Renee returned to caring for other families.

Then came another unexpected challenge.

During her first mammogram, Renee was initially told that the findings appeared non-threatening and that she could return for another checkup later. But something inside her told her to seek more answers.

She followed that instinct and received another medical opinion.

A further examination revealed Stage 3 breast cancer.

Today, Renee is halfway through chemotherapy. She recently celebrated reaching that milestone with the same determination that has carried her through every difficult chapter of her life.

More challenges remain ahead, including a double mastectomy and radiation treatment. But Renee continues moving forward with courage and graтιтude.

Rather than focusing only on her own struggles, she has expressed appreciation for everyone who has supported her — those who prayed, brought meals, sent messages, and reminded her she was not alone. 🙏

Her biggest message to others is simple:

If something does not feel right, ask questions. Seek another opinion. Trust yourself.

That decision to continue searching for answers may have changed the direction of her journey.

Now, her family and supporters are asking for prayers as Renee continues treatment.

They hope for successful chemotherapy, strength through upcoming procedures, and healing that will one day bring her back to the place she loves most — helping families welcome their precious babies into the world. 💙
