Shortly after birth, he was diagnosed with Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN), a severe condition that makes it extremely difficult for a baby’s body to circulate oxygen properly. In those early moments, every breath became a struggle, and his survival was uncertain.

For his family, what should have been a time of joy quickly turned into days filled with fear, waiting, and uncertainty. Doctors acted swiftly, placing Cam on ECMO — a highly advanced life-support system that temporarily takes over the work of the heart and lungs, giving the body a chance to rest and heal. It is one of the most intensive treatments available in neonatal and pediatric care, often used in critical, life-threatening situations.

Behind this complex medical care was another crucial lifeline: blood donors. Every unit of donated blood played an essential role in sustaining Cam’s fragile condition, supporting his treatment and giving his body the strength it needed to respond.

Day after day, Cam fought through his critical condition inside the hospital.
