💔🚗 Young Mother and 1-Year-Old Daughter Remembered After Devastating Highway Crash; Driver Faces Murder Charges

A California family continues to mourn the heartbreaking loss of 29-year-old Ivana Balistreri and her 1-year-old daughter, Lilliana, following a devastating highway crash that prosecutors say was caused by a vehicle traveling at an extremely high speed.

According to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, the collision happened on December 2 along Highway 87 in San Jose.

Investigators allege that 31-year-old Zachary Chernicky was driving a Tesla at speeds exceeding 140 mph before colliding with the rear of a Lexus carrying Ivana Balistreri, her fiancé Zachary Martins, and their young daughter.

Authorities say traffic had already come to a complete stop before the collision occurred.

The impact caused catastrophic damage, and the family’s vehicle, along with another nearby vehicle, became engulfed in flames.

Zachary Martins survived the collision despite suffering injuries.

He later described the frightening moments before the impact, saying he glanced into his rearview mirror and wondered whether the approaching vehicle would stop.

After escaping the damaged vehicle, he immediately attempted to rescue Ivana and little Lilliana.

Despite his efforts, both remained trapped inside.

According to prosecutors, the driver sustained only minor injuries.

On July 13, authorities arrested Chernicky, who has since been charged with two counts of murder. He remains in custody without bail while the criminal case proceeds. Court records indicate that he has not yet entered a formal plea.

Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen said that operating a vehicle at such extreme speeds can carry consequences similar to other acts that place numerous lives at risk, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations.

For the Balistreri family, however, the legal process cannot erase the profound loss they continue to experience.

Relatives remember Ivana as a compᴀssionate woman whose kindness touched everyone she met.

Her daughter, affectionately known as “Lilly Bean,” is remembered for her joyful smile and bright personality despite her very young age.

Ivana’s parents and siblings say every day has become a reminder of the future their family lost.

Martins has also spoken publicly about the emotional impact of the tragedy, describing the lasting pain of losing both his fiancée and daughter in a single moment.
