Parents Were Told Their Baby Would Be Born Without Eyes—Today, He’s Inspiring Everyone Around Him 💙👶

Fiona and Stevie were excitedly preparing to welcome their second child when a routine pregnancy scan changed everything they thought they knew about the future.

During an additional ultrasound, doctors noticed an abnormality and recommended further testing. A fetal MRI later revealed heartbreaking news—their baby boy was expected to be born without eyes.

When Archie arrived, doctors confirmed he had SOX2 anophthalmia syndrome, an extremely rare condition that caused him to be born without both eyes. As time went on, he was also diagnosed with hearing loss, brain abnormalities, silent aspiration, and significant motor delays.

Despite the challenges, Archie quickly showed everyone around him that his diagnosis would never define who he was.

His parents describe him as a joyful, determined little boy who lights up every room he enters. Always smiling, he loves being around people, enjoys new experiences, and faces each challenge with incredible courage.

Over the years, Archie has endured countless hospital visits and medical emergencies. During one life-threatening crisis, a specialized pediatric transport team rushed him to intensive care, providing the critical treatment that saved his life.

True to his resilient spirit, Archie recovered once again.

Today, he is learning to take supported steps with the help of a specialized walker, communicates using an ᴀssistive switch device despite being non-verbal, and is preparing to start mainstream school alongside his big sister, Alba.

His parents refuse to let his disabilities define him.

“We don’t focus on what Archie can’t do,” they say. “He’s simply a unique little boy who needs a little extra help to experience the world.”

Providing around-the-clock care is demanding, but support from Bear Cottage, a children’s hospice in New South Wales, has given the family precious opportunities to rest, create memories, and simply enjoy being together.

For Fiona and Stevie, Archie is living proof that strength isn’t measured by what someone is missing, but by the joy, determination, and love they bring into the lives of everyone around them. ❤️
