A Kansas City family is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 10-year-old Jackson S. Georgari after authorities say he wandered away from his home while sleepwalking and was later found in a nearby pond.

According to the Kansas City Police Department, Jackson was last seen around midnight at his family’s home in the Briarcliff area. Investigators believe the young boy, who reportedly had a history of sleepwalking, left the residence while still asleep.

When his family realized he was missing, an extensive search effort was launched involving local law enforcement officers, firefighters, rescue teams, and community members. Crews searched throughout the surrounding neighborhoods and wooded areas in hopes of locating Jackson safely.

Shortly after noon, first responders located Jackson unresponsive in a large pond near Briarcliff Village, approximately one mile from his home.

Emergency personnel immediately attempted lifesaving measures, but despite their efforts, Jackson was pronounced ᴅᴇᴀᴅ at the scene.

Authorities said there were no immediate signs of foul play. The investigation remains active while the Jackson County Medical Examiner works to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Jackson’s family shared that they had recently relocated to the Kansas City area from San Diego. His sisters explained that he had experienced episodes of sleepwalking in the past and believe he may have unknowingly followed a route familiar to him from daily school bus rides through the neighborhood.

They also shared that Jackson did not know how to swim, making the circumstances even more heartbreaking for those who loved him.

Kansas City Police Captain Jake Becchina expressed sympathy for the family, noting how quickly an ordinary evening turned into an unimaginable tragedy.
