FROM LOSS TO FIVE MIRACLES: A Journey of Faith, Fear, and Unbelievable Joy

For Chad and Amy Kempel, the road to parenthood was anything but easy. Their story is one marked by heartbreak, perseverance, and ultimately, an outcome so rare it feels almost unimaginable.

Over the years, the couple endured multiple miscarriages and the devastating loss of twins—a pain that left lasting emotional scars. Despite the grief, they held onto hope. In time, they were blessed with two healthy children, but their dream of growing their family never faded.

When Amy became pregnant again through intrauterine insemination (IUI), they knew there was a higher chance of having multiples. Twins or even triplets were a possibility. But nothing could have prepared them for what they saw during a routine ultrasound.

Five heartbeats.

“In that moment, most people would feel excitement,” Chad recalled. “But after everything we’d been through, we were terrified. We didn’t know if this would end in more heartbreak.”

Amy was overwhelmed. “I started crying immediately,” she said. “When they told me there was another heartbeat, I just broke down. I was so scared of losing them.”

Determined to protect the pregnancy, Amy carried all five babies to 27 weeks—a remarkable milestone for quintuplets. Doctors then performed a cesarean section, delivering the babies three months early. What followed was another intense chapter: 73 days in the neonatal intensive care unit, where each baby fought to grow stronger.

One by one, they overcame the odds.

Lincoln, Noelle, Grayson, Gabriella, and Preston all survived—healthy and thriving, part of an exceptionally rare group. In fact, only a handful of quintuplets are born in the United States each year.

Today, their home is filled with laughter, noise, and a kind of joy that was once hard to imagine. For Chad and Amy, their five children are more than a blessing—they are proof that even after the deepest loss, hope can still lead to something extraordinary.
