Baby Born Twice Thrives After Rare Life-Saving Surgery

A baby boy from Florida is preparing to celebrate an extraordinary milestone after undergoing groundbreaking surgeries that gave him a second chance at life before he was even born.
During pregnancy, Keishera and Greg Joubert learned that their son, Cᴀssian, had Congenital High Airway Obstruction Syndrome (CHAOS), a rare condition that blocks the airway and is often fatal.
After an initial fetal procedure was unsuccessful, doctors performed an innovative operation at 25 weeks of pregnancy. Cᴀssian was partially delivered so surgeons could place a catheter to relieve pressure in his lungs before gently returning him to the womb to continue developing.

Six weeks later, at 31 weeks of pregnancy, Cᴀssian underwent another specialized procedure while still attached to the placenta. Doctors performed a life-saving tracheostomy, allowing him to breathe safely after birth.
Following four months in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), Cᴀssian was finally able to go home. Although he still faces additional surgeries to remove the airway blockage, his mother says he is now a happy, smiling, and curious little boy.
“I am so, so thankful for the surgeons, by whose hands God has worked a miracle,” Keishera said.
Today, Cᴀssian’s remarkable journey stands as a testament to medical innovation, perseverance, and hope.
