A quiet Texas community has been left in disbelief after disturbing arrest footage surfaced showing two young sisters smiling and laughing moments after being taken into police custody in connection with the fatal killing of a 32-year-old mother of five.

Authorities in Del Rio, Texas, have charged Amaya “Cookie” Diaz, 19,, Kitty Mia Diaz, 21,, and Kyandra Renee Faz, 21, with murder following the violent death of Caroline “Caro” Peña, a beloved mother whose life was tragically cut short after an alleged daytime attack.

What has captured widespread attention, however, is not only the brutality of the case—but also the behavior seen during the arrests.

Footage recorded outside the sisters’ residence reportedly shows the two women being escorted to police vehicles while appearing unusually cheerful. One sister briefly smiled as officers led her away, while the other was seen laughing, flashing a grin toward the camera, and sarcastically shouting, “Stop recording!” before allegedly continuing to joke from inside the patrol car.

The video has quickly spread across social media, with many viewers expressing disbelief over the apparent lack of emotion displayed during such a serious criminal investigation.

According to local authorities, emergency responders were initially called after Caroline Peña suffered multiple stab wounds during a violent confrontation in broad daylight. She was transported to a hospital in San Antonio, where she later died from her injuries.

Investigators traced the incident back to Del Rio, a border community of approximately 35,000 residents, before locating and arresting the three suspects just hours later.

An independent journalist who happened to arrive at the scene while police activity was unfolding said he initially had no idea what had occurred. It was only afterward that he learned the women being placed into patrol cars had been arrested in connection with a homicide investigation.

“I knew something serious had happened because there were several police vehicles outside,” he recalled. “But what stood out was how carefree one of the young women appeared. She was smiling, laughing, and acting as though nothing had happened.”

Neighbors also reportedly told local media they had seen the sisters driving recklessly earlier that same day, though investigators have not confirmed whether that activity is connected to the ongoing case.

At this time, law enforcement has not publicly disclosed a motive, and investigators continue working to determine what led to the fatal confrontation.

The case has generated intense public discussion online—not only because of the tragic loss of a young mother, but also because of the stark contrast between the seriousness of the allegations and the behavior captured during the arrests.

Meanwhile, Caroline Peña’s family is mourning an unimaginable loss. Friends have described her as a devoted mother whose children are now left to face life without her.
