In a devastating and preventable tragedy that has shocked the world, a 21-year-old woman named Maria Eduardo Rodrigues de Freitas lost her life after bungee jump staff in Brazil pushed her off a bridge without attaching any safety rope, causing her to fall approximately 130 feet (40 meters) into a deep canyon below.

The horrifying incident took place on Saturday at the notorious “Skeleton Bridge” (Ponte de Esqueleto) in Limeira, São Paulo, Brazil. Maria, who was from the nearby community of Jandira, had been looking forward to the bungee jumping experience and excitedly shared her preparations on social media just hours before the fatal jump.

According to witnesses and circulating footage, Maria was led onto the jumping platform by two staff members. Without realizing the extreme danger, she was propelled over the edge. The video, which has gone viral on social media, clearly shows that no safety rope or harness was attached to her body.
