The Kansas City Chiefs have brought former Las Vegas Raiders coach Antonio Pierce to training camp despite being a former sworn enemy due to his vast defensive knowledge.
Pierce is a guest of Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who is using every tool at his disposal to get Kansas City back to its winning ways.
The Chiefs were denied a three-peat by the Philadelphia Eagles in February, giving up 40 points. Expectations are for Kansas City to play in their sixth championship game in the last seven seasons.
To ensure that prophecy comes true, Pierce, wearing Chiefs red, after the better part of the previous two seasons giving his all to the Raiders’ black and silver, was present in Missouri.
‘I think you guys probably know this. Antonio and I have been close for a long time. In ’07 when I went to New York with the Giants, he was the Mike linebacker,’ Spagnuolo said. ‘The present-day version of Antonio Pierce is (the Chiefs’) Nick Bolton now.’
‘He became a coach, and all the way to being a head coach, he obviously had that when he was a player. That’s a nice thing to have when you’re a defensive coordinator, a guy that’s that cerebral. I’ve got a lot of respect for Antonio. I’m glad he came through.’

‘The guys are loving having him. He’s giving feedback from a player’s standpoint, coach’s standpoint, head coach’s standpoint. … And maybe we’ll ask him about some Las Vegas Raiders stuff.’
Pierce has not found another coaching job after the Raiders went 4-13, giving him the pink slip, and hiring Pete Carroll instead.
That unemployment should not last for long as NFL teams inevitably falter during the 2025 season.
Before joining Spagnuolo in New York, Pierce began his NFL career in Washington, holding down the middle linebacker spot for a division rival.
It’s safe to say Pierce knew how to change his loyalties for the better of the team back then, and he’s doing so again in 2025.
