Jaguars star Josh Hines-Allen shares major update on his 7-year-old son's cancer battle ahead of key milestone

The best story of the NFL preseason may already belong to Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Josh Hines-Allen, whose seven-year-old son, Wesley, is winning his battle with leukemia.

Hines-Allen previously shared Wesley’s progress at the start of camp last week, but has now revealed more encouraging details about his eldest son’s treatment. Specifically, Wesley doesn’t have too much more to endure.

‘He’s doing well,’ Hines-Allen told CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco. ‘He’s in full remission right now. We got one more phase right now and then after that, at the end of August, we should be done with all treatment.

‘He’s back in school living like a seven-year-old life, which is fun.’

Hines-Allen added that Wesley is already back to ‘getting in trouble,’ which may be the best indicator of all.

The former Kentucky standout and his wife Kaitlyn have launched a foundation, Four One For All, which is doing a season-long initiative тιтled, Four One For Hope, aimed at supporting four cancer-related nonprofits in 2025.

‘We started a foundation last year, Four One Four All,’ Hines-Allen said. ‘But this year we kind of identified it more to help with childhood cancer awareness.

‘We’ll be playing and doing things to help families in need and showing our support.’

Hines-Allen also expressed his family’s graтιтude at all of the supporters they’ve encountered over the last seven months.

‘So many so many prayers have been coming our way and we can feel it,’ he said. ‘To see the smile on his face, we know that prayer works, so we can can’t ask for more.’

Previously Hines-Allen revealed that Wesley is being treated at Nemours Children’s Health in Jacksonville, where he expects to ring the ‘cancer-free’ bell.

And, because Wesley is a normal Florida kid, he’s been spending his summer outside.

‘He’s swimming every day,’ Hines-Allen said. ‘He’s running around. He’s playing sports.

‘He’s got back to being the big brother that he is.’

Hines-Allen will be relied on heavily this season in Jacksonville after reaching a pair of Pro Bowls and recording 53 career sacks over six NFL seasons.

He signed a five-year, $141 million deal before the 2024 season that includes $77 million in guarantees.
