BREAKING NEWSNFL star wide receiver KaVontae Turpin arrested in Texas

Dallas Cowboys star KaVontae Turpin was arrested in Texas on Sunday morning.

The wide receiver, 28, was booked into Collin County jail on charges of possession of marijuana and the unlawful carrying of a weapon, court records show. His bond was listed at $500.

His arrest comes just four months after the Cowboys re-signed the All-Pro kick returner to an $18 million, three-year contract this offseason.

Turpin returned a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns last season on his way to his first All-Pro nod. The Cowboys said on their website the deal could make Turpin the highest-paid special teams player in NFL history. He was set to become a restricted free agent.

DailyMail.com has reached out to the Cowboys for comment.

The arrest is not the first time Turpin has been embroiled in off-field issues. He was kicked off the football team at TCU in 2018 after being arrested for ᴀssault with bodily injury to a family member.

Turpin later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to to probation and ordered to attend an abuse intervention program, according to The Dallas Morning News.

He went on to take a detour en route to the NFL after going undrafted. After jumping around multiple leagues, including a stint in Poland, Turpin signed with the New Jersey Generals in the USFL.

The Louisiana native was named USFL MVP in his one and only season with the Generals, garnering attention from the NFL.

He joined the Cowboys in 2022 after making a splash in the USFL. The former TCU standout essentially made the team by returning a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the same preseason game as a rookie.

Turpin has steadily become more involved as a receiver in the Dallas offense. He caught three touchdown pᴀsses and ran for a score in 2023 before finishing with a career-high 420 yards receiving with two TDs last season.
