Former Ravens star Diontae Johnson reveals the reason he 'refused' to enter the week 13 game that led to suspension

NFL star Diontae Johnson has revealed why he refused to enter the Baltimore Ravens’ Week 13 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Back in December, wide receiver Johnson was suspended without pay for conduct detrimental to the team after refusing to enter the game – which they lost 24-19.

Shortly afterwards, head coach John Harbaugh alluded to issues behind the scenes and, in the weeks that followed, the Ravens opted to waive Johnson.

Now, in an interview on the Sports & Suits podcast, Johnson has revealed the reasons behind his refusal to play.

The 28-year-old admitted: ‘End of the third going into the fourth, they were like, ‘Tae, we need you,’. I was like, ‘Nah, I don’t think it’s a good idea for me.’

‘Like, my legs are already ice cold and I didn’t wanna go out there and put bad stuff on film’.

The Ravens opted to hand Johnson a one-game suspension however, amid the fractured relationship, that eventually lead to his exit at the end of December.

He was subsequently picked up by the Houston Texans but lasted just three weeks there before getting waived once more.

The Texans were the third team to employ Johnson this season after he was traded to the Carolina Panthers in March before being dealt again to Baltimore in October.

He made a brief return to the Ravens after being waived by the Texans – despite not being eligible to play the rest of the season – and quickly became a free agent again.

He has since signed a one-year, $1.7 million deal with the Cleveland Browns.

A former third-round pick out of Toledo, Johnson became a major contributor with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he had five seasons of at least 50 catches and 680 yards.
