Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward was arrested Thursday morning on a felony ᴀssault family violence charge after an episode at his Texas home, according to the Houston Chronicle. 

The 33-year-old allegedly choked an individual at his home in Magnolia, the Montgomery County (Texas) jail told the paper, and he was arrested at 5:38 a.m. per the arrest report.

He reportedly is being held without bond.

The Texans said in a statement they are aware of the report.

“We are gathering more information and have no further comment at this time,” the team told the Houston Chronicle via senior director of communications Omar Majzoub.

Ward began his career with 49ers after being selected with the No. 30 pick out of Northern Illinois in 2014.

He has since carved out a respectable 11-year career, spending his first nine seasons in the league with the 49ers before signing a two-year, $13 million contract with Houston ahead of the 2023 season.

Prior to the final year of said two-year deal, the Texans granted him a one-year, $10.5 million extension that has him currently under contract for the upcoming season.

Ward played 10 games apiece in each of his first two seasons with Houston and was a team captain for both campaigns.

He has recorded three interceptions, 98 total tackles and five tackles for loss with the franchise.

His future in Houston could be up in the air now following his arrest.

Ward carries a cap hit of $5.7 million for the upcoming season but the team could carry just $4.6 million in ᴅᴇᴀᴅ cap space should it opt to move on.
