BREAKING NEWSFormer NFL star and Fox analyst Jonathan Vilma arrested in Miami

Former Super Bowl champion Jonathan Vilma has been arrested while driving in Miami this week, according to reports.

The Fox NFL color analyst, 43, was detained Wednesday for driving with a suspended license, according to Andy Slater.

Vilma, who won a college championship with the Miami Hurricanes, was reportedly stopped because his tag had expired.

This isn’t Vilma’s first run-in with Miami law enforcement. In 2009, while a member of the New Orleans Saints, he was arrested on a felony charge of resisting arrest with violence and misdemeanor counts of reckless driving and obstruction of justice.

However, prosecutors later dropped the charges and Vilma reportedly donated $1,000 to a hospital trauma center as part of the agreement.

‘I appreciate that the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office did their due diligence and decided not to file charges against me regarding the arrest that occurred on January 16, 2009 in Miami,’ Vilma said in a prepared statement at the time, via ESPN.

‘I believe the State Attorney’s Office did the just and right thing in this matter. I would like to thank my family and friends, the New Orleans Saints organization, and my fans for supporting and believing in me.’

The former linebacker, who grew up in nearby Coral Gables, enjoyed a standout career with the Hurricanes, playing for Miami from 2000-03.

He was a member of the 2001 Miami team, which is considered one of the greatest in collegiate history with 38 players going on to be drafted into the NFL.

In the same year, Vilma helped the Hurricanes clinch the national championship тιтle against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Vilma was drafted by the New York Jets in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft, being selected with the No. 12 overall pick.

Vilma won Defensive Rookie of the Year and appeared in 55 games for the Jets, including a 2005 campaign in which he led the league with 173 combined tackles and earned his first Pro Bowl nomination.

He was traded to the New Orleans Saints ahead of the 2008 season, where he went on to win the Super Bowl two years later at the Sun Life Stadium in his home state.

Following standout college and NFL careers, Vilma hung up his cleats in 2014. He was inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame in 2017.

He later transitioned into broadcast and has just wrapped up his fifth seasons calling NFL games for Fox alongside Kenny Albert. He has also previously served as a college football analyst for ESPN.
