Jonnu Smith’s agent reveals Dolphins star’s ‘first choice’ in new twist to trade saga

Dolphins тιԍнт end Jonnu Smith isn’t interested in moving.

As trade chatter swirls around Smith, who is seeking a new deal for the 2025 season, his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, cleared the air on the Pro Bowler’s standing during a weekly segment on the Miami-based WSVN-7

“Here’s what I will say on behalf of my client: Jonnu would definitely like to stay in Miami,” Rosenhaus said, via the Miami Herald. “That’s his first choice. This is where he lives in the offseason. He had a record-breaking season last year. It was the best season ever for a Miami Dolphin тιԍнт end. … He broke the team record for receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns for a тιԍнт end and was the team’s single Pro Bowl player. He’s an incredibly valuable part of this team. … He went to college at FIU. His dream team is the Dolphins.

“Hopefully, everything works out where he can stay in Miami.”

Outside of the Dolphins, Smith has played in Tennessee, New England and Atlanta. The 29-year-old had the best season of his career thus far in Miami, where he signed a two-year, $8.4 million deal last offseason.

Smith tallied career-best totals of 88 receptions on 111 targets for 884 yards and tied his personal high of eight touchdowns. He also led the Dolphins in catches and touchdown grabs, and ranked second in receiving yards.

Those numbers led to his first career Pro Bowl nod.

He is slated to earn a base salary of $3.49 million in 2025 and counts $4.64 million against the salary cap.

Last week on the “Pat McAfee Show,” NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported that Smith is chasing “a lot” of money coming off a big season.

However, the Dolphins may not have the funds to follow through with Smith.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday the Dolphins engaged in trade discussions with the Steelers after Smith conveyed he wanted to re-work his contract.

Smith isn’t the only Dolphins standout on the trading block as Jalen Ramsey could also be on his way out of South Beach.
