Magic Johnson recalled a time when he hung up on Michael Jackson twice and hosted Prince at one of his movie theaters, as he reminisced about his NBA playing days on Thursday’s episode of ‘The Jennifer Hudson Show.’

The 64-year-old, former Lakers point guard first brought up a throwback story on Jackson calling him about appearing in a 1992 music video for one of his most popular hits, ‘Remember the Time.’ 

‘So I get a call, ”Magic I want to talk to you.” So I hung the phone up,’ Johnson said. ‘So the phone rang two minutes later, ”Magic this is Michael Jackson.” I said, ”This is not Michael Jackson,” so I hung the phone up again. 

‘So I knew Jackie Jackson very well, his brother. So his brother called and said, ”Magic, that was really Michael calling you,”’ Johnson added. ‘No, no! Please, I’ll call him back!’

The five-time NBA champion then revealed that when he finally got Jackson on the other line again, he spent an hour apologizing to him.

The 64-year-old, former Lakers point guard said that Prince once wanted to come to one of his movie theaters with a ‘busload’ of people at 1 a.m.

Johnson also needed a phone call form close pal Jackie Jackson to convince him that it had been Michael calling him multiple times about potentially being in one of his music videos

”’I am so sorry,” I thought somebody was playing a joke on me right,’ Johnson recalled.

‘So he says, ”I’m doing this video and I want to do one with the two MJs, one with you and one with Michael Jordan,”’ Johnson said, adding that Jackson asked him if he was free to roll through his house later on the same day of their call. 

The three-time MVP remembers replying straight away: ‘Can I come to your house? Man, what time do you want me there?’ 

Johnson also explained how he expected a healthy meal to appear on Jackson’s long dinning table while they were hanging out, but the 15-time Grammy Award-winning singer ultimately decided to order KFC. 

”’Michael, you eat Kentucky Fried Chicken!”’ Johnson recalled telling Jackson. ‘I said ”Hold up, I gotta come down there and share that bucket! We sat on the floor and tore that chicken up!’ 

Opening up on his interaction with Prince, Johnson recalled the ‘Raspberry Beret’ hitmaker asking if he could have a pajama party at one of his Magic Johnson Theatre locations. 

He also remembered the Minneapolis native wanting to book an entire theatre for himself and a ‘busload’ of people for a 1 a.m. session and that they’d all be coming in there pajamas. Johnson then told Husdon that he made sure to inform his manager about Prince’s request. 

‘I went to sleep and got back up at 12, I had to make sure he was okay,’ Johnson said. ‘So here come the buses, people came in and I tell you something, they were like little kids, laughing at every joke, everything that happened, wearing pajamas. I mean just what he said would happen happened. 

‘And that was one of the biggest thrills to have Prince in the hood at my theater with his team of people, that was wonderful. It shows you how important those theaters were to the community.’ 

Johnson also revealed that Jackson had a premiere for ‘Thriller’ at one of his theaters.
