Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr signed a two-year, $35million extension to remain in the Bay Area.
On Friday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Kerr’s new extension after receiving information from Priority Sports. His new deal makes Kerr, 58, the highest-paid coach in NBA history, making $17.5m per year.
According to sources, San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich makes more annually. However, the 26-year veteran holds the dual тιтle of president and coach. Meanwhile, Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra signed an eight-year extension in January that reportedly pays him around $15m a season.
While Kerr’s last contract was set to expire at the end of this season, his extension keeps him in charge of the Warriors through 2025-26.
The deal culminates months of talking and negotiation between Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Kerr’s representatives at Priority sports. The Warriors front office prioritized keeping Kerr, who holds the fifth best winning percentage in NBA history at .655.

Kerr led the Golden State Warriors to four NBA Championships and six Finals appearances
In his nine seasons in charge of the Warriors, Kerr boasts a 501-264 (.655) record in the NBA
Kerr became a staple in Golden State and a key part in the Warriors’ dynasty. His extension ᴀssures his presence in what could be a transitional phase for a roster that was built around Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
The Warriors have won four NBA тιтles and made six finals appearances under Kerr’s leadership. Last Thursday, Kerr got his 500th win in a game against the Utah Jazz, making him the fifth-fastest coach to reach the feat.
In the 2016-17 season, Kerr led Golden State to the best regular season record, 73-9, in NBA history. They bested the record (72-10) previously held by the 1996 Chicago Bulls, who Kerr played for.
In his ninth season with the Dubs, Kerr holds a 501-264 record. He also serves as the coach for Team USA and will lead the Stars and Stripes in the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris.
The Warriors have won seven of their last eight games after securing a 128-110 win over the Los Angeles Lakers out of the All-Star break. The win moved them to 28-26, sitting tenth in the Western Conference.
