Donald Trump reveals why he got involved in the Shedeur Sanders draft debacle

Donald Trump has admitted that he intervened in Shedeur Sanders’ draft slide in part because his father, Deion Sanders, is a fan of his politics.

The former Colorado quarterback was tipped by many – including his dad – to be a top-10 pick in last month’s NFL draft.

But in a stunning turn of events, Sanders was instead pᴀssed over by all 32 teams until the fifth round.

He was eventually selected by the Cleveland Browns with the 144th overall pick after Trump had scolded teams for ignoring Sanders in the first round.

‘What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID? Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL,’ Trump wrote on Truth Social during the draft.

‘He’s also a very good coach, streetwise and smart! Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness.

The president added: ‘He should be ‘picked’ IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!’

Trump was asked about his decision to speak out during a recent interview with Hugh Hewitt and the president said two things made up his mind.

‘His father is a big Trump fan and I like it when people are Trump fans,’ he told Hewitt. ‘His father has said great things about me over the years.

‘No 2, genetics. He has good genes for a football player. I watched him play for a little bit and I thought he was a really talented quarterback. I like his gene pool and I like his talent. I really think he’s going to do well. I just felt they treated him really badly.’

After the Browns ended Sanders’ slide, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked if Trump deserves credit for the pick.

‘All I will say is, the president put out a statement and a few rounds later he was drafted,’ Leavitt replied. ‘So, I think the facts speak for themselves on that one.’
