Popular MTV reality compeтιтion star Johnny ‘Bananas’ Devenanzio has been revealed as part of the tragic incident involving John Elway and his longtime friend and agent Jeff Sperbeck, who died Wednesday after fatally falling off a golf cart.
Sperbeck tragically died at the age of 62 after succumbing to the traumatic injuries he sustained from falling off the back of a golf cart in La Quinta, California Saturday evening.
Elway was revealed to be driving the golf cart, with his wife, Paige Elway, riding inside. Devenanzio and Sperbeck were riding on the back of the cart when the agent fell back and suffered his injuries.
The seven-time champion on MTV’s ‘The Challenge’ eventually jumped off the golf cart and tried to help contain the blood coming off Sperbeck’s head, per The Sun.
There is no indication of wrongdoing from Elway, as Devenanzio tried to comfort Sperbeck until an ambulance arrived. Elway, Devenanzio, and Sperbeck were all in California for the Stagecoach music festival.
‘This has been a terrible time for everyone involved and our hearts continue to go out to the Sperbeck family. As John grieves this unimaginable loss, we appreciate the efforts of the Riverside County Sheriff’s department. The investigation has confirmed what we already knew: this was a tragic accident and sometimes things happen in life that we will never comprehend,’ Elway’s attorney Harvey Steinberg said on Friday.

Still submerged in the profound sadness of losing someone who ‘has meant so much,’ Elway said, ‘Jeff will be deeply missed for the loyalty, wisdom, friendship and love he brought into my life and the lives of so many others,’ in an emotional statement Wednesday evening.
Sperbeck brought loyalty and wisdom into Elway’s life through a 35-year friendship that extended beyond their business dealings.
Throughout his three-decade career as an agent, Sperbeck represented more than 100 NFL players. But for Elway, he became more than a representative.
Devenanzio has not spoken out about his involvement of the tragic incident. The MTV star linked up with the Super Bowl winner as he is close with Jack Elway, John’s son.
While Elway dominated on the field, winning two Super Bowls with the Broncos, Sperbeck helped the Hall of Famer establish his off-field empire.
Overseeing Elway’s marketing and business ventures, which included restaurants and car dealerships, Sperbeck ultimately became his partner.
In 2013, the pair collaborated with winemaker Rob Mondavi Jr. to co-found 7Cellars – 15 years after Elway hung up his cleats and retired from the NFL.
