The Mummy of Hekashepes: A Golden Discovery

At the bottom of a 50-foot deep shaft, archaeologists led by Dr. Zahi Hawᴀss uncovered a mᴀssive limestone sarcophagus weighing 45 tons. Inside, they found the mummy of Hekashepes, wrapped in gold leaf – a clear indication of his high status in ancient Egyptian society. This discovery marks the oldest known example of a non-royal mummy adorned with gold in Egypt’s history.
