Shedeur Sanders’ ‘naive’ decision to not hire an agent led to him being prank called during the NFL Draft, a league insider has claimed.

Sanders’ brutal tumble to the fifth round of the NFL Draft was made even more painful along the way as a caller rang him on Friday and pretended to be Saints GM Mickey Loomis.

It was later revealed that the prankster was Jax Ulbrich, the son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, with Jax later apologizing on Instagram for his ‘inexcusable mistake.’

And while Sanders’ choice to not hire traditional representation (his father, ex-NFL star, Deion, instead acted as his agent) has been blamed by some for his draft fall, a source has claimed to ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the move also played a role in the pᴀsser’s number getting leaked.

Reading a text message from ‘somebody in the league’ on his eponymous podcast, Schefter quoted the source as saying: ‘The Shedeur prank thing is awful, but shows their naivety by not hiring an agent. 

‘The fact that they had the league send his number to the entire football distribution list was such a mistake, one that wouldn’t have happened with agent who would’ve handled that communication.’

Schefter went on to explain how generally, the league usually lists a player’s agent as their point of contact.

However, that protocol was different for Sanders in the absence of a certified agent, and Schefter’s source also blamed the league for how they handled disseminating the quarterback’s number.

‘I’ve never seen the league share a draft prospect’s number with the entire distribution list,’ the text to Schefter also read.

‘As soon as I saw the email on Thursday of Draft Day, I was like ‘Oh No,’ and the league probably shouldn’t have disseminated it the way that they did, knowing it was ripe for abuse. ‘

Sanders’ brother and former Colorado teammate, Shilo, was also represented by their father.

As he waited for his name to be called on Saturday (he ultimately went undrafted), Shilo revealed how he had decided to sign with an agent.

Powerful NFL agent Drew Rosenhaus later announced that Shilo had signed with his agency, and the defensive back joined the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent following the draft.

Sanders was not the only player prank called during the NFL Draft, as it emerged that former Texas wide receiver Isaiah Bond was also on the wrong end of the cruel act.

тιԍнт end Tyler Warren was also the victim of a prank call, his camp told Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz.

Warren’s camp is said to believe the number which called the тιԍнт end was the same – or at least from the same area code – as the one which called Sanders.

The Penn State тιԍнт end – who ultimately went No. 14 overall to the Colts – was called by someone with the Jets on the clock at No. 7.
