Super Bowl champ Saquon Barkley joins Donald Trump at POTUS's golf club day before Eagles' White House visit

Saquon Barkley enjoyed some time with President Donald Trump on Sunday just one day before the Eagles’ White House visit.

Barkley, who produced a historic 2024 season for Philadelphia, had already spent time with Trump’s family this spring as he posed for pictures with Trump ’s daughter, Ivanka, and her husband, Jared Kushner at the JP Morgan tech 100 summit.

On Sunday, the star running back was seen alongside Trump at his Trump National golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

An image shared to social media shows Barkley, Trump and several others sitting around a table together, with the President and Eagles player sitting next to one another just before the Eagles’ White House visit on Monday commemorating their Super Bowl win.

There were also several ‘Make America Great Again’ hats stacked on the table, though Barkley was not wearing one.

Barkley’s apparent comfortability around Trump and his family may differ from his teammate Jalen Hurts, as the quarterback hinted in a new interview that he could snub the team’s visit to the White House.

During an interview with TIME on Thursday, Hurts was asked if he was planning on heading to the White House.

‘Ermmmm,’ the quarterback said before staying silent, prompting an abrupt and awkward end to the interview.

Earlier this month, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie insisted every player would be given the choice of whether to attend or not.

‘Our culture is that these are optional things,’ Lurie said. ‘If you want to enjoy this, come along and we’ll have a great time and if you don’t, it is totally an optional thing.’

The team did not visit Washington to celebrate victory in Super Bowl LII in 2018.

Trump – then in his first term in office – canceled the event after it emerged that only a handful of players were planning to attend. It came amid his war with the NFL over protests during the national anthem.

But the Eagles accepted an invitation to attend this year, with Lurie explaining: ‘We just felt this is a time-honored tradition being invited by the White House… so there was no reticence whatsoever.

‘To be celebrated at the White House is a good thing. There were special circumstances (in 2018) that were very different, and so this was kind of an obvious choice and look forward to it.’

He added: ‘When you grow up and you hear about, “Oh, the championship team got to go to the White House,” that’s what this is. And so we didn’t have that opportunity and now we do. I think we’re all looking forward to it.’

The Eagles’ trip to the White House comes after they trounced the Chiefs 40-22 in the Super Bowl.

Barkley had a relatively quiet 57 rushing yards in the game, though his  2,504 rushing yards between the regular season and postseason were an all-time record.
