Quinn Ewers’ girlfriend sends strong message after QB is one of last players picked in NFL draft

Shedeur Sanders wasn’t the only star college quarterback dealing with draft disappointment.

Quinn Ewers, who led Texas to back-to-back trips to the College Football Playoff, was taken in the seventh round by the Dolphins with pick No. 231.

His girlfriend, Madelyn Barnes, thinks 31 teams will end up filled with regret.

“Miami baby!!” Barnes wrote on her Instagram Story. “Time to prove ’em all wrong.”

Barnes also included a video from the University of Texas of an emotional Ewers presumably getting the call from Miami’s draft war room after he got word that the team selected him.

Ewers, 22, was embraced by his family after putting down the phone and wiping away tears.

Barnes, a marketing student at Oklahoma, and Ewers appear to have been dating for over two years based on pH๏τos she shared on her Instagram.

“So incredibly proud and overjoyed!!” Barnes added on Instagram. “Quinn, you are so deserving of this and a whole lot more! You’re the most driven, dedicated, and genuine man both on and off the field. I’m so excited for this journey and to watch you live out your dreams. GO DOLPHINS!!”

Ewers’ fall was not as shocking as Sanders, who went in the fifth round to the Browns, but there was a chance he would be a Day 2 or early Day 3 pick. Instead, only 26 players went after him.

Ewers was a three-year starter for the Longhorns after transferring from Ohio State and threw for 9,128 yards and 68 touchdowns against 24 interceptions.

Ewers had gone viral earlier in the draft thanks to the precipitous amount of animal heads in the background shown in a video of him waiting for his name to be called at the draft.

During his final two years in Austin, Ewers fended off Arch Manning for the starting job.

“Sark [Texas coach Steve Sarkisian] really likes him and was high on him, talking about him playing through the injuries this year — which affected his play a little bit,” Dolphins GM Grier said, per ESPN.

“But [Sarkisian] talked about his toughness, his mental toughness pushing through with the injury, the expectations, all the pressure with [Arch] Manning there coming in. He loved his compeтιтiveness and how he plays, and how his teammates respond to him. So, he was someone that we always had an eye on and the opportunity at that point in the draft just made sense for us.”

Ewers will join starter Tua Tagovailoa and Zach Wilson, who signed with Miami this offseason, in the Dolphins’ quarterback room.

Ewers is known for his pᴀssing accuracy, but his arm strength — or lack thereof — is likely the reason he tumbled down draft boards.

“Pushing the football down the field and outside the number has not been kind to Ewers this season,” according to Bleacher Report’s scouting take on the QB. “His pᴀsses are losing steam the further he attempts to down the field. His arm is functional and efficient but not great by any means.”
