Shilo Sanders signed with Buccaneers after being ignored in NFL draft

Shilo Sanders had to wait even longer than his free-falling younger brother to find out his new NFL team.

The Colorado safety, and brother of quarterback Shedeur Sanders, signed with the Buccaneers as a free agent Saturday night after not being selected in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Shedeur Sanders was considered one of the top players available in the draft, but he lasted all the way until the Browns grabbed him in the fifth round with the No. 144 overall pick.

“Both of y’all, you’re resilient,” father and NFL legend Deion Sanders told his sons during the family’s live stream Saturday on Twitch from the family’s home in Texas.

“They tested us this draft,” Shilo Sanders said, to which Deion replied, “they tested the whole family.”

Shilo Sanders hired Drew Rosenhaus as his agent over the weekend, too.

Shilo played his first two college seasons at South Carolina before transferring to Colorado as a junior, when his father and brother switched there from Jackson State.

The 25-year-old defensive back appeared in 21 games over two seasons for the Buffaloes, with 99 solo tackles (three for loss), one interception and one sack.

Shilo Sanders also forced six fumbles and recovered three, including one returned for a touchdown, but he was not invited to the NFL Scouting combine in late February.

“Turnovers win games,” Sanders wrote on X Tuesday ahead of the draft. “Somebody’s getting a dawg this week! Believe that.”

Shilo Sanders, who has signed with agent Drew Rosenhaus, was Colorado’s third-leading tackler last year despite missing three games with a broken forearm in September.

He also sat out two college seasons after suffering a torn ACL in 2022.

“I’m thankful,” Deion Sanders added during the Twitch stream. “Tampa’s a wonderful spot.”

Shilo Sanders noted during the livestream that former Pro Bowl safety Ryan Clark also went undrafted “just like me” before playing 13 NFL seasons.

Clark’s son, Notre Dame defensive back Jordan Clark, also signed Saturday with the Jets as an undrafted free agent.
