Victor Wembanyama has enjoyed a near-flawless debut season in the NBA – but the Spurs rookie made his first slip-up off the court this weekend.

During a live appearance on TNT Sports, Wembanyama left the likes of Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley in sтιтches when he accidentally dropped an F-bomb while discussing his relationship with San Antonio head coach Gregg Popovich.

‘I remember maybe two or three months into the season, and we were on film in front of everybody, and he [Popovich] goes like: “Yeah… what the f**k is this?”‘

As the TNT crew descended into laughter, a completely oblivious Wembanyama continued quoting Popovich: ‘”This is what you were doing on day one. Why did you take a step back? You’ve got to keep getting better.”

‘So yeah, sometimes he sends messages like this.’

Former NBA star turned analyst Kenny Smith then joked: ‘Welcome to cable TV.’

As he realized his mistake, sportscaster Ernie Johnson Jnr then told Wembanyama: ‘You’re cool, don’t worry about it.’

Wembanyama, who was selected by San Antonio with the first overall pick at this year’s NBA draft, is enjoying an incredible start to life with the Spurs, registering 20.5 points per game, 10 rebounds and a free-throw percentage of 81 so far this season.

Last week the 20-year-old also became the first player to secure a triple-double with blocks for over three years in their win over the Toronto Raptors.

Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic recently had huge praise for Wembanyama, claiming the Frenchman will go on to ‘change’ the game of basketball.

The rookie is still only 20 but, speaking at All-Star weekend, Jokic said Wembanyama’s influence will become clear in time.

‘I like his approach. He really cares – he’s not scared of getting tired, or getting “embarrᴀssed” in some moments,’ said Jokic.

‘He just plays and wants to win the game. He’s playing 100 per cent and you can see he’s doing a lot of things on the court. So he’s a really good player.

‘I’ve already said it – I think he’s going to change the game and we just need to give him time and witness (it).’
