While 2018 first-round pick Patrick Mahomes is not expected to have much involvement in this year’s NFL Draft, his mom, Randi, certainly will.
The mother of the three-time Super Bowl winner shared a couple of big Draft announcements with her Instagram followers this week, starting with the news that she’ll be partnering with the city of Green Bay (where the Draft is being held) for a family-friendly event.
Randi will be hosting a ‘QB Challenge’ at the Field Fest ahead of the Draft, with attendees also able to compete in a 40-yard-dash, obstacle course and long throw compeтιтion.
That event will be held on April 23, one day before the first round of the Draft.
On Draft Day, Randi will also be delivering a fireside chat for the YMCA – centered around parents who are raising children that play sports.
Randi will be joined by Greater Green Bay YMCA interim CEO Jamie Hanner, according to the company’s website.

‘When Patrick was growing up, there were so many moments I wish I had a playbook for–times when I had no idea what the right decision was or how to best support him. Looking back, I’ve learned so much, and now I get to share those lessons with other parents walking that same path,’ Randi said in the announcement.

The announcement also teased a ‘new national project designed to empower and support parents of young athletes.’
The event will be free and aim to offer advice to ‘sports parents’ from Randi’s perspective raising Patrick.
While the 29-year-old is now considered one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, his mom revealed to her Instagram followers earlier this month that he actually considered quitting football in high school.
Patrick was playing for Whitehouse High School when his mom encouraged him to keep going.
‘It was something that actually I didn’t have to do that much because he was so determined for himself,’ Randi said, in response to a question about keeping her son motivated. But there were times that he would get a little down, even a moment in high school when he wanted to quit football, yes he did.

‘And I encouraged him that sitting out a season of sports and watching the games, it was not going to be fun for him, and so he stuck to it luckily.’
Randi also announced her launch of the Sports Parent Academy this week, which is an online course designed to help parents.
‘I’ve learned so much over the years and I can’t wait to share it all with you. she said on Instagram. ‘The wins, the hard lessons, and everything in between.’
Patrick and his Chiefs teammates are now more than two months removed from their heartbreaking Super Bowl loss to the Eagles.
It was a tough game for Mahomes in particular as he threw two interceptions and lost a fumble.
Nonetheless, the two-time MVP will look to bounce back next season.
