Puka Nacua suggested that the San Francisco 49ers should take caution about offering star quarterback Brock Purdy a lucrative extension this offseason.
After helping lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2024, where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, Purdy’s numbers dipped this past season as the team went 6-11 and missed the playoffs.
Speaking to former New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman on the ‘Games with Names’ podcast, the LA Rams wideout was asked if Purdy was worthy of a $ 50 million-plus contract.
‘I don’t think so,’ Nacua replied. He then added that the signal-caller is not worth a contract worth north of $40million.
‘I think (mid-$40 million) range,’ Nacua said. ‘I think so. He seems like a smart guy.’
‘They have a chance to still be in their window. And I think if he goes for ($50 million-plus), then the window closes.’

While many may question Nacua’s take, his ᴀssessment is undisputedly reasonable. Not because of Purdy’s talent but because paying any player $50m-a-year could naturally risk financial restraints on the team.
Still, Purdy has proven worthy of at least being considered for a rich deal. In his first three seasons in the NFL, all in the Bay Area, the 25-year-old completed 722 of 1069 attempts for 9,518 yards and 64 touchdowns.
Nacua’s Rams had the upper hand on the 49ers this past season, winning both of their meetings, 27-24 and 12-6.
Purdy is entering the final quarter of his four-year rookie deal, worth $3.7m. The deal, which he signed upon being drafted, guaranteed him $77,008 and a $934,252 annual salary.
