Aaron Rodgers attacks Aaron Glenn as he opens up on New York Jets exit

Aaron Rodgers has hit out at how Aaron Glenn, the new New York Jets head coach, handled his departure from the team after two years with the organization.

Rodgers officially left the Jets in March, with Glenn leaving the Detroit Lions to become head coach and since signing Justin Fields to be his No 1 quarterback.

Breaking his cover in an appearance on the Pat McAfee show on Thursday, Rodgers said: ‘Listen, that was an interesting two years to say the least. I figured that when I flew across country to my dime there would be a conversation (over his future).

‘The confusing thing to me is I went out there, I meet with the coach, we start talking… he runs out of the room. I’m like ‘that’s strange’.

‘Then he comes back with the GM and I’m like all right. So we sit down and I think we’re going to have this long conversation and 20 seconds in and he (Glenn) goes: ‘You sure you wanna play football?’ And I said ‘yes’ and he said ‘we’re going in another direction at quarterback’.

‘I was shocked because.. I flew halfway across the country and you could have told me this on the phone. They said “we just want to know how you want it released”.

Rodgers continued: ‘I said “I don’t give a s*** about the message”‘ before claiming that Glenn’s reason for wanting rid of him is because he said: ‘I don’t want to be up in frton fo theroom sayung something and have guys looking back at you.’

Rodgers spent two seasons at the Jets, with his first being a write-off after tearing his Achilles four snaps into his first game against the Buffalo Bills.

The Jets went 5-12 in Rodgers’ only full season with the team and were never really in contention to make the playoffs. Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns.

‘I wasn’t upset about it but I was just surprised. I’m still thankful for my time with the Jets,’ he said. ‘

The 41-year-old was otherwise coy over what the future holds but spoke highly of the Pittsburgh Steelers, which seems to be his obvious landing spot if he chooses to play on.

He said that he is ‘going through a lot’ in his personal life and that it takes precedent over football at present and hasn’t ruled out retiring.

‘This entire time, I haven’t felt like I owed anybody a decision at any point,’ he said.

‘I’ve said listen, if you need to move on and do something, love and respect. But there’s been no ᴅᴇᴀᴅline. I’ve talked to Mike T (Tomlin) many times.’
