Heirloom H๏τel Owners Share the Moment That Hit Hardest After the Fire: “It Broke My Heart”!hl

LAUREL, MISSISSIPPI — Months after a devastating fire tore through the historic Heirloom H๏τel, the owners are opening up about the emotional aftermath of losing a project they had spent years bringing to life.
Speaking on The Heirloom Podcast, co-owner Josh Nowell revealed that the moment that hurt the most came after the flames were extinguished. With the building’s roof destroyed, relentless rain began pouring into the structure, soaking rooms and damaging what little remained. “It broke my heart,” Nowell said, recalling the feeling of watching the unfinished dream deteriorate further with every storm.

The Heirloom H๏τel, featured in HGTV’s Home Town: Inn This Together, had been just days away from opening when a fire swept through the property in August 2025. Owners Josh and Emily Nowell, along with Jim and Mallorie Rasberry, had spent two years transforming the historic downtown building into a boutique H๏τel.
Despite the devastation, the owners say the tragedy also revealed the strength of their community. Friends, family members, and supporters rallied around them, offering encouragement, donations, and help with rebuilding efforts. One emotional moment came when Mallorie Rasberry’s brother arrived unexpectedly to support her, a gesture she described as deeply moving.
Today, rebuilding efforts continue, and the owners remain determined to restore the H๏τel. While the scars of the fire remain, they say the overwhelming support from the community has given them hope that the Heirloom’s story is far from over. 🏨❤️
