Kyren Lacy, a 24-year-old former wide receiver for Louisiana State University (LSU), has tragically pᴀssed away in Houston, Texas, less than two weeks before the NFL Draft.
Lacy’s death comes amid serious legal challenges stemming from a car accident that resulted in the death of a 78-year-old man named Herman Hall, which the receiver was involved in on December 2024.
Lacy, scheduled to report before a grand jury on April 14, had initially been released on a $151,000 bond.
Detroit Lions cornerback Amik Robertson, a friend of Lacy from their shared hometown of Thibodaux, Louisiana, shared his final texts with Lacey prior to his death.
“I need you to trust the process & put it in God’s hands,” Robertson wrote to Lacy on January 11, shortly after LSU’s season ended and one day after Louisiana State Police issued an arrest warrant for Lacy. “I know this is a tough time but my faith high. I don’t know what happen cause I don’t wanna get into that. But if you are in the wrong everyone makes mistakes. It’s all a learning process. Keep faith brodie. Love n–a. I’m always here right or wrong.”
Lacy responded, “All love brother!” with a heart emoji.
Their last exchange shown in the post saw Lacy tell Robertson, “Appreciate dat bro needed to hear dat!! They gone feel us!”
Robertson said “you know it,” abbreviated to “yk it,” with a handshake emoji.
Lacy began his collegiate career with the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns before transferring to LSU in 2022.
Over three seasons with the Tigers, he amᴀssed 112 receptions, 1,692 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns.
In his senior year, Lacy led the team with nine touchdown receptions, totaling 58 catches for 866 yards.
The investigation into the December 2024 accident remains ongoing.
Louisiana State Police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash and Lacy’s subsequent actions. The legal proceedings will proceed as scheduled, despite Lacy’s pᴀssing.
