It’s ‘a little weird’ around the Steelers as Aaron Rodgers saga drags on

The latest forecast around Pittsburgh is murky to say the least.

That’s according to NFL insider Josina Anderson, who reported Thursday the vibe around the Steelers “feels a little weird” as quarterback Aaron Rodgers has yet to make a decision about his playing future even after visiting the facility on March 21.

“The vibe? I would say it feels a little weird here,” a league source told Anderson on the state of the Steelers. “The running joke around here right now is ‘who’s going to be our quarterback?’ Now, I wouldn’t say there’s any panic though; but the current QB depth says what it says.”

The Steelers have heavily pursued Rodgers, 41, this offseason after his two-season stint with the Jets ended earlier this year.

Pittsburgh saw its 2024 quarterback tandem of Justin Fields and Russell Wilson leave in free agency, with Fields landing a two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets while Wilson signed a one-year, $10.5 million guaranteed pact with the Giants.

Despite having the insurance of longtime backup Mason Rudolph, who returned to the Steelers in March after a year in Tennessee, the glaring hole at QB1 remains — and owner Art Rooney II wants to fill it sooner rather than later.

When speaking at the league meetings in Palm Beach last week, Rooney expressed optimism about Rodgers but noted he didn’t think the process would be “taking this long.”

Even as Rodgers mulls next steps — which may or may not include the possibility of looking to see how the J.J. McCarthy developments in Minnesota unfold — the Steelers are exploring other options at the quarterback position.

The team is hosting NFL draft prospect Shedeur Sanders on Thursday.

Draft analysts remain divided over where the 22-year-old Colorado quarterback could land, with some projecting him in the top three — where the QB-needy тιтans, Browns and Giants select in that order — or that he’ll fall.

Ole Miss product Jaxson Dart also recently visited the Steelers, who hold pick No. 21.

With the 2025 NFL Draft now two weeks away, buzz is building for the possibility of a Rodgers resolution to be reached by then.

The draft begins on Thursday, April 24, in Rodgers’ old stomping grounds of Green Bay.
