Inside Geno Smith's talks with Tom Brady before finalizing Raiders trade and becoming the new Las Vegas QB

Tom Brady wanted to make sure Geno Smith felt love from the Las Vegas Raiders before he ever played a down for the franchise, as the legend’s crucial pre-trade talks with his new quarterback have been revealed.

Last month, Smith was dealt from the Seattle Seahawks to the Raiders , with him signing a two-year, $75million extension with the team last week.

Brady’s own playing career and similarities to his end days in New England, and last season in Seattle for Smith, led to a repour being built between Las Vegas’ new offensive leader and the most identifiable minority owner in sports.

Brady made a FaceTime call to Smith as the trade was being finalized, per Sports Illustrated, with being recognized for his hard work quickly on the current Fox Sports commentators’ agenda.

Smith also said when the trade was finalized that Brady told him to hang out at his house in Miami to continue their conversations about continuing to find NFL success later in a career.

The new Raiders quarterback has rarely been looked at as a valuable ᴀsset during his NFL career, which began in 2013. That now appears to be the standard in Las Vegas.

During Smith’s NFL career, he lost his starting job with the New York Jets in 2015 and did not have the same faith place in him until 2022 with the Seahawks, when Carroll was at the helm.

That is an abnormally long period for a quarterback to wait for another opportunity to start. Those who do not get another sH๏τ at full-time first-team duties within two seasons are relegated to permanent backup duty, if not out of football all together.

Smith will turn 35 in the middle of the next NFL season, with Brady having success in the NFL until his mid-40s, one of the only people in history to not have a dip in form in sports that long into a career.

Now Smith is back on a team with Carroll calling the sH๏τs, with his career lifeline proving to be a valuable move again.

Smith will have a tough task competing in the AFC West alongside other quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert.

There is no doubt Smith has plenty of support from Brady, making any foray into football in Las Vegas much easier.
