Bills star James Cook puts NFL on red alert by dropping mᴀssive exit hint

Bills star James Cook has put his Orchard Park home up for sale – fueling rumors that the running back could be on his way out of Buffalo.

The 25-year-old, a second-round draft pick in 2022, has cemented himself as one of the NFL’s most destructive running backs.

Only Jahmyr Gibbs (20) scored more touchdowns than Cook (18) in 2024 as he amᴀssed more than 1,000 rushing yards for the Bills.

But the 25-year-old is now entering the final year of his $5.8million rookie contract and the Bills have paused negotiations over a new deal. Cook is currently slated to become a free agent at the end of the 2025 season.

Cook has indicated that he wants a bumper extension worth $15m a year but Bills GM Brandon Beane recently said he doesn’t envisage an agreement ‘anytime soon’.

Now, as reported by WIVB, Cook has put other NFL teams on red alert by putting his home on the market. The three-bedroom house is listed for $710,000 and Cook’s NFL memorabilia can be seen inside.

Game balls, prints and framed jerseys – belonging to Cook and many other NFL players  – are visible in the advert.

The running back has sent a few thinly-veiled messages to the Bills on social media in recent weeks, including after Saquon Barkley was handed a new $41.2m deal by the Eagles.

Several Bills stars have been rewarded with contract extensions over recent weeks, including receiver Khalil Shakir and cornerback Christian Benford. But Beane last week suggested that Buffalo’s focus was now on the NFL draft, rather than Cook.

‘His reps and him did put it out there that we did talk, so I’m not sharing anything new,’ he said. ‘It didn’t lead to anything as far as closing in on a deal, so we moved onto the guys that we were more on the same page with.

The GM added: ‘At this point, we’re on to the draft, once we got Benford done. I don’t see us doing any deals anytime soon. We’re going to focus on the draft and getting our (salary) cap in order.’

Beane nevertheless insisted he ‘loves Cook to death’. ‘Just because we don’t have James signed today doesn’t mean next year we still can’t get a deal done before he gets to free agency,’ he continued.

‘Jimbo’s a pro. I respect him and love him to death… we want him to have success. We’re rooting for him. We want nothing more (than) for James to continue being a Buffalo Bill well past this season. But we are where we are.’
