NBA star Haywood Highsmith was cited for careless driving in a car crash Tuesday night that left a man in critical condition, according to a report. 

The Miami Heat said that the forward was involved in the crash on his way home from a win over the Orlando Magic in a statement released Wednesday. 

A man, identified as Alekxei Pino, was ‘suffering from a partial amputation on his right leg,’ a fractured left leg and a possible broken left arm after being involved in the incident, according to the Sun Sentinel. 

At around 11:30pm on Tuesday, a Toyota SUV was disabled with its lights off when Highsmith was driving on the road. 

The hoops player is said to have been driving his 2021 Audi A5 at an estimated 45 mph, 5 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.

A man was in the road helping the woman with the disabled car and Highsmith was unable to stop his car in time as he approached, hitting the vehicle and the man, according to the Miami-Dade police report, via the Sun Sentinel. 

The force of the crash reported sent the disable car about 50 to 60 yards before it came to a stop. 

Highsmith was not injured but Pino was left lying on his back on the road when police arrived at the scene. 

Officers treated him at the scene until he was taken to Jackson South Medical Center, where he was in critical condition with his injuries ‘incapacitating’, according to the report. 

Highsmith was driving in a ‘careless or negligent manner’ at the time of the crash and was issued a citation, which is not considered criminal. 

The Heat listed Highsmith out for Wednesday’s game against San Antonio for personal reasons. 

‘Our hearts go out to those who were injured,’ the team said in a news release.
