NFL announces major change to its Christmas Day schedule

The NFL is going back to a Christmas Day tripleheader for the 2025 season, it has been reported.

Last year, the league held two games on Wednesday, December 25, as the Chiefs beat the Steelers and the Ravens trounced the Texans.

With Christmas falling on a Thursday in 2025, the NFL will broadcast two games on Netflix and a late contest on Amazon, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

Both the Kansas City-Pittsburgh and Baltimore-Houston games were on Netflix last year.

The latter matchup also included a performance from Beyoncé at halftime.

While the NFL first held a regular season game on Christmas Day back in 1989, the triple-header is a relatively new installation.

A trio of Christmas games was first held in 2022, with the Packers beating the Dolphins, the Rams beating the Broncos and the Bucs edging out the Cardinals in overtime.

The following year, the triple-header trend continued as the Raiders knocked off the Chiefs, the Giants lost to the Eagles and the Ravens beat the 49ers.

It’s not yet clear who will be playing on Christmas this season, though the Chiefs and Ravens have both done so the last two years.

Of course, the NFL also holds three Thanksgiving games per year, which typically include both the Cowboys and Lions.

The NFL schedule has not been released yet, though it generally comes out after the NFL Draft, which ends on April 26 this year.
