Peter Schrager leaves NFL Network for ‘good reasons’ in emotional final show

Peter Schrager confirmed rumors that he’s leaving “Good Morning Football” during Monday’s installment of the NFL Network show.

The Fox Sports NFL insider and broadcaster, who’s been with the show since 2016, announced that Monday would be his last day and he’s leaving for “a bright future.”

Schrager, 42, did not address last week’s report by Front Office Sports that he’s in “serious talks” with ESPN — which could include contributing to various shows such as “NFL Live,” Stephen A. Smith’s “First Take” and Mike Greenberg’s “Get Up.”

“The rumors are true. Today is my last day on ‘Good Morning Football,’” Schrager said. “I end with great feelings, we’re going to celebrate today. I love everyone on this show. It’s all good.

“But this will be the last episode I’ll be on this program and with a heavy heart I’m stepping away, but it’s also for good reasons and a bright future. And hopefully we’ll all still be crossing paths and we can talk about ball elsewhere and it’ll be fine.”

Peter Schrager announced that he is leaving "GMFB" during the NFL Network show on March 31, 2025.

Kyle Brandt cracked a joke about the “big news” being that Schrager’s mock draft is coming out before adding, “You leaving the show, that’s pretty big deal. I’m gonna have to adjust to that.”

Brandt teased Schrager’s announcement Sunday night, posting a pH๏τo of his co-host with the caption, “Tomorrow, on a very special episode of Good Morning Football…”

Ian Rapoport confirmed Schrager was leaving for a rival network, though could not specifically mention ESPN.

“Peter Schrager has now agreed to terms with someone else,” the NFL insider said. “We’re not going to tell you who. It could be anyone. He’s joining another group of insiders that I would say is not as good looking… agreed to terms, he’s done.”

If things move quickly enough, Schrager could also be a part of ABC and ESPN’s coverage of the 2025 NFL Draft on April 24-26.

After Schrager’s exit, Brandt becomes the only remaining “GMFB” host from the show’s inception in 2016.

Schrager, a native of Freehold, NJ, appeared on the show remotely after it relocated to Los Angeles last season.

With Fox, Schrager also appeared on the network’s weekly pregame show.

He hosts a podcast,“The Season with Peter Schrager,” under the NFL Podcast Network umbrella.
