Revealed: Matthew Stafford has still not signed his new LA Rams contract

After agreeing to a new contract with the Los Angeles Rams last month, Matthew Stafford has yet to actually put pen to paper on the deal.

Stafford not signing for the 2025 season in Hollywood was revealed by his head coach, Sean McVay, on Monday, with the hope that the deal would be completed soon.

Stafford’s contract for next season is worth $27million, with that amount counting against the Rams until terms of the new deal have been agreed to.

‘We sent it to [agent] Jimmy Sєxton this week and so I think it’s just semantics,’ coach McVay said on PFT Live. ‘I don’t know if they’ve officially signed that or not. But unless he has a change of heart, it’s – semantically, it is done.’

McVay did not reveal exactly what the hold-up is between the quarterback and the Rams, as he has played for Los Angeles since 2021.

The contract is not locked in due to Stafford taking a different amount in pay than his previous deal.

McVay is far from worried that Stafford is holding out to get more money or spurn the Rams all together.

‘It’s gonna be a great representation of the selflessness of Matthew Stafford, the ability for us to be able to say, “All right, we had some hard conversations but we were able to come to a collaboration and understanding of, Hey, we love you. We want you here. This is how we’re able to build the right team around you but also make you feel appreciated,”‘ McVay said.

‘And he did, you know he made some sacrifices to continue to stay with us and for that I’m damn grateful.’

The 37-year-old Stafford was allowed to test the open market this offseason, with interest coming from several teams looking for a solid starting quarterback, including the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Particular interest reportedly came from the Las Vegas Raiders, with Tom Brady making a personal pitch to Stafford himself.
