NFL-bound Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart causes a stir after killing rare turkey on Georgia hunting trip

There is no need to question Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart’s accuracy ahead of next month’s NFL Draft.

The league hopeful not only dazzled NFL scouts at his recent pro day in Oxford, Mississippi, but he followed the workout with a successful hunting trip in Georgia, where the 21-year-old Utah native bagged a big bird.

‘First [turkey emoji] for @JaxsonDart in Georgia!’ friend and hunter Tyler Jordan wrote on X.

The picture shows both Jordan and Dart kneeling behind a rare, mᴀssive turkey: a double-bearded tom.

According to University of Georgia’s Dr. Mike Chamberlain, a National Wild Turkey Federation Distinguished Professor, fewer than 10 percent of toms have more than one beard – the cluster of bristles hanging from the upper breast.

‘Way to go fellas,’ wrote one enthusiastic supporter on X.

‘Awesome!!!’ another added. ‘Congrats guys.’

Dart is an accomplished hunter, having killed a cougar during a 2023 trip. Ole Miss’ football program later celebrated a Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl win over the Penn State Nittany Lions by posting a pH๏τo of the kill on X.

But unlike his recent killing of a turkey, which was widely applauded online, fans were less enthusiastic about him shooting a wild cat that resembled Penn State’s mascot.

‘Love the win but damn…feel like I’m looking at my own cat,’ one critic wrote online.

‘I’m an Ole Miss fan and this is disgusting!’ another added.

One woman referred to the image as ‘revolting.’

After leading the Rebels to a 10-3 season and a 52-20 win over Duke in the Gator Bowl, Dart continued to impress scouts at both the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis and this month’s pro day in Oxford.

A product of the Manning Pᴀssing Academy, Dart was easily the biggest standout while completing 18 of 23 pᴀsses as his receivers dropped a few catchable balls in Indianapolis. Not only did he show off a strong, accurate arm, but also threw the prettiest ball of anyone at the Combine.

He was once seen as a likely third-round pick, but Dart is now being viewed as a late-first or early second-round option for some quarterback-hungry teams.
