NFL Network’s Peter Schrager in ‘serious talks’ with ESPN

Peter Schrager could be on the move to ESPN.

On Friday, Front Office Sports reported that the NFL broadcaster is currently in “serious talks” with the sports network for a job that would involve contributing to various shows including “NFL Live”, Stephen A. Smith’s “First Take”, and Mike Greenberg’s “Get Up.”

While multiple sources say the deal isn’t finalized, if it’s agreed to quickly enough, Schrager could also be a part of ABC and ESPN’s coverage of the 2025 NFL Draft on April 24 through 26.

Schrager, 42, is currently a co-host of NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” and has been a staple there since the show’s inception in 2016.

He also contributes to Fox’s NFL coverage, including pregame appearances.

It’s also unclear whether his podcast, “The Season with Peter Schrager”, through Fox will come with him if he moves on to ESPN.

As the year 2027 creeps closer — a year in which the network is set to air its first Super Bowl and again in 2031 — ESPN has been in a hiring frenzy and acquiring Schrager would be a part of that effort.

With Fox, he played a Super Bowl pregame role and appeared on the network’s weekly 11 a.m. pregame show.

ESPN recently also hired director Artie Kempner, who also was previously at Fox Sports, to be the new director of “Monday Night Football” and has prior Super Bowl experience, directing two big games with Troy Aikman and Joe Buck.

The network is also hoping to earn back to rights of its 45-year-long coverage of the NFL Draft. It’s competing with Fox Sports, and Google/YouTube TV as the league is fielding bids for the media rights to start in 2026.
