J.J. Watt moving to CBS booth in major NFL media shakeup

Football fans will see a new duo on their TVs when they tune into some games on CBS this fall.

J.J. Watt will make the jump from studio talking head to in-game analyst this upcoming season, joining Ian Eagle in the broadcast booth to form CBS’s No. 2 broadcast team.

Eagle’s previous partner, Charles Davis, is sliding into a new role as the network’s lead college football analyst beginning in 2026.

Davis will remain a member of the “NFL on CBS” broadcast announcing team for the upcoming season, according to a network press release.

Watt, 36, makes the leap after spending the past two years inside the studio as part of the “NFL Today” crew following his retirement after the 2022 season.

The five-time All-Pro NFL defensive end got his first taste of the broadcast booth on Christmas Day when he called a game on Netflix alongside Eagle.

“There is nothing better than the energy and excitement of being in the stadium on game day in the NFL,” Watt said in a statement. “I couldn’t pᴀss up the opportunity to return to that atmosphere each week, working with one of the best in Ian. While I certainly miss delivering hits on the field, it will be nice to leave the stadium without taking any, unless Ian decides to try something crazy.”

Watt talked about his new gig in a post on X where he wrote, “New partnership is off to a H๏τ start” and included two pH๏τos of a hilarious text exchange with Eagle, where the duo talked about how to prepare for games.

Watt played 11 seasons in the NFL, spending his first 10 years with the Texans and then playing his last two with the Cardinals.

He’ll be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame ballot in 2028.
