Aaron Rodgers sent message by New York Giants after signing rival quarterback Jameis Winston

The New York Giants are not completely backing away from signing Aaron Rodgers despite signing quarterback Jameis Winston from Cleveland.

According to the New York Post, the Giants signed the 31-year-old on a two-year deal worth $8million.

However, the move came to pad the depth chart as they hope to remain an option for the 41-year-old Rodgers.

The Post’s Paul Schwartz noted that ‘The Giants still want him and will not close the door on him, even after the Winston signing.

‘They did not feel comfortable waiting and waiting for Rodgers to make up his mind without adding an experienced quarterback.’

Before adding Winston, the only quarterback on the Giants roster was Tommy DeVito. Keeping Rodgers in East Rutherford in different colors remains a long sH๏τ following his ugly divorce with the Jets after two abysmal seasons.

However, if Rodgers signs with the Giants, Winston would be his backup.

Additionally, the Giants could still be interested in selecting a quarterback in the NFL Draft, where they hold the third overall pick.

According to the New York Post, Shedeur Sanders is a likely draft prospect, and if Rodgers ends up in New York, there would be no pressure to get him on the roster as a rookie.

The search for a new signal-caller was put in motion in November when Daniel Jones was benched and later released in the middle of the season.

After finishing with a 3-14 record, the Giants tried to acquire Matthew Stafford in a trade with the Rams, which appeared promising at one point. However, the Rams ended up re-signing the quarterback.

As a result, the pursuit for Rodgers continues with Russell Wilson also in the market.

Rodgers completed 368 of 584 pᴀsses for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns last season, as the Jets finished with a 5-12 record. They have acquired Justin Fields from Pittsburgh following Rodgers’ exit.
