Zach Wilson has regrets from ‘challenging’ Jets tenure as Dolphins era begins

It’s all about the journey for newly signed Dolphins quarterback Zach Wilson.

Shortly after agreeing to a one-year, $6 million deal with Miami, Wilson, 25, spoke candidly Wednesday on the Dolphins’ “Drive Time” podcast about his “challenging” time with the Jets, with whom he spent three rocky seasons.

“There’s things, looking back, I wish I could’ve done so much better, maybe would’ve approached differently, but I think, at the end of the day, it’s all part of the story,” Wilson said.

“Learning from those experiences and those hard times ultimately is what got me here and hopefully being able to take advantage of the opportunity here.”

The second-overall pick in 2021, Wilson arrived in New York with high expectations after being drafted as the successor to Sam Darnold, who flourished outside of the tri-state area last season with the Vikings.

It was a roller-coaster ride from there, with Wilson throwing nine touchdowns against 11 interceptions in his rookie season when the Jets finished at 4-13.

He was benched in his sophomore year for failing to fall on the sword in a 10-3 loss to the Patriots.

Though the Jets intended to give Wilson a reset year in 2023 with the arrival of Aaron Rodgers, the four-time league MVP suffered a season-ending Achilles injury just four plays into his debut with the team.

Wilson was thrown back into the action and finished his Jets tenure by throwing 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions across 34 games.

He was traded to the Broncos last offseason and was the third QB on the depth chart behind Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham, respectively.

Although he faced Miami twice a year with the Jets, Wilson is ready to take it all in on the opposing sideline with his new coach, Mike McDaniel

“I think it’s going to be a great fit with what I’m looking for,” said Wilson, who signed Monday and was joined by fiancée Nicolette Dellanno.

“The type of offense, the amount of information I’ll be able to learn from these guys. I think it couldn’t have been a better match.”

The Dolphins are coming off an 8-9 season and missed the playoffs.
