Harrison Smith returning for 14th NFL season with new Vikings deal

Harrison Smith returning for 14th NFL season with new Vikings deal

Vikings defensive back Harrison Smith will be back for a 14th season with the team.

Minnesota and the longtime Viking agreed upon a reworked contract for the 2025 season allowing him to return for another year with the only NFL team he has ever played with, The Athletic’s Alec Lewis reported on Wednesday.

Smith’s new deal is worth roughly $11 million and includes incentives that could bring the deal up to $14 million.

Smith has been an important part of the Vikings on and off the field, and keeping him had become increasingly important after safety Cam Bynum signed with the Colts.

Defensive coordinator Brian Flores and head coach Kevin O’Connell both did not want to see Smith leave, Lewis reported.

A first-round pick in 2012, Smith has played all 13 years in the NFL in the Land of 1,000 Lakes, where he’s put up 1,126 tackles, 20.5 sacks and 37 interceptions in 192 games.

Smith has been named to the Pro Bowl six times in his career and was a first-team All-Pro in 2017 and a second-team All-Pro in 2018.

Smith is expected to be inducted into the organization’s Ring of Honor whenever he does decide to retire, and he’s got a good case for Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The 36-year-old has taken time to figure out what his future will be after the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
