Adam Schefter lashes out as Aaron Rodgers’ free agency drags on

Adam Schefter is out of patience.

The ESPN insider vented some frustration about Aaron Rodgers’ free-agency process, which has now dragged onto its fourth day.

“To me, this shouldn’t be that hard, right?” Schefter said on the “Jen, Gabe and Chewy” podcast.

“Like, the Steelers want you. The Giants want you. We’re seeing players across the league make decisions.”

Schefter’s comments come with Rodgers, whom the Jets officially released Wednesday, being the big domino left to fall in free agency.

And while the new league year did not start till Wednesday, players around the league have been agreeing to deals since Monday.

His decision will have a significant impact on the Giants and Steelers — both of whom are believed to have the 41-year-old Rodgers atop their quarterback wish lists.

Russell Wilson appears to be the fallback plan for both franchises — and the Super Bowl-winning QB may be getting impatient as well.

Wilson, who started 11 games for the Steelers last season, scheduled visits with the Browns and Giants, in that order, at the end of the week.

Cleveland has not been considered an option for Rodgers as the AFC North team has been linked to Kirk Cousins, whose future is uncertain with the Falcons.

“It shouldn’t be that hard,” Schefter said. “Either you want to play or you don’t. You want to play in Pittsburgh or you don’t. You want to play in New York or you don’t. Like, Chewy, what’re you going to have for lunch? You gonna make a decision or are you gonna drag it out for four days, five days, a week? It’s not that hard. Make a decision and live with it.”

Rodgers and Schefter have clashed before over decisions about his future.

In 2023, when Rodgers was deciding between retirement and the Packers trading him away, he grew annoyed over Schefter’s reporting on the situation.

The four-time league MVP also told Schefter to “lose my number” after the reporter reached out directly.

“I texted him. I say, basically: ‘Have you informed the Jets that you’d like to play there? I wanted to open it up to you,’” Schefter recalled of the exchange.

“He didn’t respond for maybe 10 minutes. So then I called the number, got sent to voice mail. Then he texts me, ‘Lose my number. Good try tho.’ That’s all. He’s the one who says the media’s getting it wrong. I wanted to go to the source and get it right. That’s all. I was just trying to do my job.”

And now Schefter wants his job to include reporting on Rodgers’ next team after two underwhelming years with the Jets.
