Josh Allen reveals classy reason why he didn't demand record NFL contract after signing new $330m Bills deal

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen just secured his future with a huge contract extension that will see him get a serious pay raise over the next few years.

Allen, who just won the MVP Award for the 2024 season, upped his salary from $258million to $330million thanks to his new deal.

Of his $330m salary, he’ll have $250million of that guaranteed – exactly $100m more in guaranteed money from his old contract.

While this is certainly plenty of money, Allen could have demanded more out of the Bills’ ownership group.

The current highest-paid quarterback by average annual value is Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, who makes $60m a year on a four-year, $240m contract.

Allen is now tied for second behind Prescott. He sits with Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow, and Jordan Love.

It may come as a bit of a surprise, considering none of those players have won the league’s highest player honor like Allen has.

But when speaking to reporters, Allen says that he didn’t need to break any records.

‘It didn’t seem like, to my perspective, I was taking a whole lot less,’ Allen told reporters on a Zoom call.

‘But the way that I make sense of it, when you start getting these fairly big numbers throughout the entire league… It’s weird to say this, but what’s five [million] more going to do for my life that I can’t already do right now?

‘It’s not that crazy to me. I live a pretty good life. Got a house, got a car, we’re good. But I wasn’t looking to absolutely kill them in every chance that I could.

‘And I told my agent that. I was like, “Hey, if this has any… impact on the cap let’s figure out a way to not do that.” So again, both sides were willing to move and change different things.

‘And it was a pretty calm mannered negotiation I can say, at least what I can hear on both sides. So it was good.’

Last year, despite projections that he’d struggle with a diminished receiving corps, Allen led the Bills to an AFC East тιтle. Buffalo also reached the AFC Championship game, where they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs.
