BREAKING NEWSZach Wilson agrees deal with Miami Dolphins after Denver Broncos release

Zach Wilson is set to join the Miami Dolphins as backup to Tua Tagovailoa after being released by the Denver Broncos.

The 25-year-old has agreed a one-year, $6million deal with Miami following miserable stints with both Denver and the New York Jets, who drafted him second overall back in 2021.

Yet after being released by the Broncos without playing a single snap last season, he will now embark on another fresh start in 2025 as a Dolphin.

Mike McDaniel was in the market for a quarterback behind Tagovailoa, who missed a career-high six games in 2024 due to injuries and his third diagnosed concussion in two years.

The Dolphins used three backup quarterbacks in 2024 – Skylar Thompson, Tim Boyle and Tyler Huntley – with little success. Huntley started five games for Miami, going 2-3.

Wilson was the Jets’ starter for most of his three seasons in New York but failed to live up to the lofty expectations of a high draft pick brought in to lead the franchise.

His time in New York was highlighted by his strong arm and mobility, but marred by poor decision-making.

The former college standout went 12-21 as a starter with 6,293 yards pᴀssing, 498 yards rushing, a 57 percent completion rate and 23 touchdowns before being benched in 2023. He threw 25 interceptions.

After being traded to Denver last year, Wilson failed to make an appearance while serving as backup to Bo Nix, with his only outings for the team coming in preseason.

Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said at the end of last season the team planned to address the backup quarterback position.

Earlier Monday, Miami announced they have re-signed defensive tackle Matt Dickerson, who appeared in four games in 2024.
